Prices & reviews, explained.

A little context helps you choose your next stop. Here is how to read our price guide and how community reviews become a truck’s rating.

Understanding prices

The dollar symbols describe a typical food order for one adult, including sales tax. Tips, drinks and optional extras are excluded. They describe spending level, not food quality or a customer rating.

Our price levels for a typical order per person
Price levelTypical total
$InexpensiveUnder $10
$$Moderate$10 to $19.99
$$$Pricey$20 to $29.99
$$$$Ultra High$30 or more

For meal trucks, we use an ordinary meal or a reasonable quantity of the main food. For snack and dessert vendors, we use a normal serving and identify that context. Compare similar kinds of orders.

What does “From” mean?

“From” is a starting price for a standard food item that can be ordered by itself. One taco can cost less than a full taco meal, so a low starting price and a $$ meal level can both be correct. It is not a promise that we have checked every item for the absolute lowest price.

A local example

The directory owner reported paying $11 including tax at Taqueria La Esperanza for two steak tacos and one pastor taco, all at the same price.

$11 ÷ 3 ≈ $3.67 per taco

That supports an approximate From $3.67 item price and a $$ Moderate three-taco meal. The item estimate includes tax and is rounded from the reported total, not an exact individual menu quote. Report supplied October 18, 2026.

We prefer current individual menu prices and label calculated estimates with their tax basis. Prices and portions can change. Check the listing’s menu and confirm with the truck. We are reviewing price details as listings are updated; older price levels may still be provisional.

How ratings work

Each reviewer selects a score from 1 to 5 for both:

  • Food Quality / Flavor: how the food tasted and its quality.
  • Value for Money: how the food and portion compared with the amount paid.

Both scores carry equal weight. A review’s overall score is their average.

5 for food + 3 for value = 4.0 overall

We add the two scores and divide by two.

How a truck gets its overall score

The truck’s score is the average of its approved, rated reviews. Each review counts equally. For example, approved reviews of 4.0 and 5.0 give a truck 4.5 out of 5. Pending reviews and replies do not count.

A truck with no approved ratings has no score yet. “Be first to review” is an invitation to share an experience, not a zero-star rating.

Reviews are checked before publication

Share an honest, first-hand experience and keep it respectful. Avoid spam, promotions and personal contact details. Your display name, rating and review may appear publicly; your email address stays private. A published review is not a verified-purchase badge.
